Molecular Reagent BD MAX™ Staph SR Staphylococcus Aureus (SA) DNA For BD MAX System 24 Tests
REAGENT, STAPH SR ASSAY D/S
Features
- Includes: Strips, master mix, extraction reagents, sample buffer tubes and septum caps
- Automated qualitative in vitro diagnostic test for the rapid detection of Staphylococcus aureus (SA) DNA and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) DNA from nasal swabs in patients at risk for nasal colonization
- The test utilizes real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the amplification of specific DNA targets and fluorogenic target specific hybridization probes to detect and differentiate MRSA and SA DNA: specific amplicon in the SCCmec right-extremity junction (MREJ), the genes for methicillin resistance mecA and mecC, the gene nuc encoding a thermostable nuclease of S. aureus

- Detects MRSA strains with the novel mecC cassette and new MREJ types, mecA dropouts that can cause MRSA false positives
- Promotes effective antibiotic management through targeted use of mupirocin and can avoid costly vancomycin infusions in OR
- Results in about 2 hours, compared to 2-4 days for culture
- Takes less than 1 minute of hands-on time per specimen
